What we do and how we do it

Image

We specialise in the manufacture of packaging and display items made from corrugated cardboard. Our extensive range of machinery makes everything from a standard brown cardboard box to a sophisticated full colour display stand.

We have customers all over the UK and some abroad but the vast majority of our business is in Kent,Sussex, Surrey, Essex and London.

Our design department uses the latest CAD software to design your item in the most efficient way with the minimum of wastage. We will tailor the design to meet your strict criteria if necessary. Whether it be weight, recyclability, product protection or distribution considerations, our dedicated design department has the solution for you.

Once the design is complete we can make a sample for you for approval if you need it before the order is processed. This is done using our digital printing and CAM sampling machine. This way you can be sure of what the finished product will look like and you can proceed with confidence.

When the design is complete, the manufacturing department will process your order. With us you can be sure that only highly skilled operators are manufacturing your items. We are committed to producing only the highest quality and delivering on time.

Environmental Issues

Background

When we chose to set up WH Skinner, one of our priorities was to choose an industry sector that had good environmental credentials. We did not want to create a business around any type of production process that would release toxic chemicals into the environment or would produce something that could not be recycled after use.

Corrugated cardboard is fast becoming the packaging material of choice for many environmentally conscious companies in the wake of vastly increased customer awareness and demands. Polystyrene and plastic have their place but they have been chosen in the past purely based on price or suitability considerations. Things are changing and as the price of those materials will increase at a greater rate than that of paper, their price advantage may disappear soon or may even have gone already. When you consider the fact that corrugated packaging is far greener from a recycling point of view, you can see that polystyrene and plastic are now being abandoned by more and more companies.

Doing our bit

We use our advanced software to help our production planners minimise the amount of waste and off cuts from every job. Just a little extra effort and planning can make significant cost savings but this is great for the environment too. All our waste board is returned to the paper makers for recycling.

All the board we buy has a varying degree of recycled paper in it. Where we have high strength requirements the blend will have a larger percentage of virgin pulp (kraft) in the board because virgin fibres are stronger. With low to medium strength packaging we try to choose boards that contain higher percentages of recycled fibres.

What can we do for you?

If you need to raise the ‘green’ profile of your company then we can help you choose a packaging style that will fit in with your policy. We can offer semi-recycled and fully recyclable materials together with the use of environmentally friendly inks.

If you have been using plastic or polystyrene inserts to hold your products in place, we are very experienced at producing bespoke inserts from corrugated card that can hold your box contents safely and firmly in place.
