Wallpaper* Magazine Hygge Christmas Market
A collaboration project between Wallpaper* Magazine, 3XN Architects, the Danish Embassy and King’s Cross developers Argent, this outdoor Christmas market embraced the Danish concept of Hygge.
W.H. Skinner was commissioned to manufacture and deliver the components to a tight deadline and even tighter budget.
Kim Herforth Nielsen, 3XN Founder and Creative Director said “Taking inspiration from snowflakes and how they form, we created a flexible structure where modules, which can be assembled without any adhesive, can ‘crystallize’ in different directions using very few components.”
This structure was made up of hundreds of repeating, interlocking pieces of white 5mm thick corrugated polypropylene, which assembled into an enclosed outdoor market spreading over 500m2. The pieces which formed the outside wall each had two Wallpaper asterisks and two circular holes cut into them, allowing the branding to carry through the design without the need for costly printing and for lighting to be wired in, which created a beautiful glow.
The market showcased the best in Danish craft, design, food and fashion including international brands Hay and Georg Jensen.
