Client Overview

Our client, a renowned design agency specialising in creative campaigns for the film and entertainment industry, approached WH Skinner with an exciting challenge. In preparation for the highly anticipated release of Paddington in Peru 3 in November 2024, they needed us to produce large-format, immersive displays that would transform cinema foyers into interactive experiences for visitors.

This project required not only creative design but also precise planning to ensure that the displays were both visually impactful and structurally sound, given the high foot traffic they would attract, especially from children.

Project Scope and Objectives

The primary objective was to create over 50 large-format displays to be distributed to cinemas across the UK. These displays needed to achieve the following:

  • Provide an immersive, photo-worthy experience for visitors to interact with.
  • Ensure structural integrity and stability to withstand heavy usage by families and children.
  • Comply with accessibility regulations, including ensuring wheelchair access through the display.
  • Be efficiently packaged for distribution to individual cinema locations.

Our Approach

Our process began with a thorough consultation over multiple video calls with the client to fully understand their creative vision and the practical requirements of the project. This included:

1. Design & Structural Considerations

The design featured a large boat at the front of the display and 2.4m high backboards that created a visually striking backdrop for photos. Our team worked closely with the client to ensure that the display elements would:

Use durable materials that would withstand prolonged use.

Be stable and secure, even with large crowds interacting with them.

Include reinforced structures to prevent tipping or collapse.

2. Accessibility Compliance

A key requirement was ensuring that the display adhered to legal accessibility standards. We carefully measured the space between the front boat panel and the backboards to ensure there was sufficient clearance for wheelchair users to comfortably move through the display.

3. Production & Assembly

Once the designs were finalised, we moved into production. Our team:

Collated all components and tested the stability of the structures to guarantee they could handle high traffic and active engagement.

Produced over 50 units of the display, ensuring consistency in quality and durability.

4. Packaging & Distribution

Each unit was collated and packed into individual outer boxes, ready for distribution to cinemas around the UK. The packaging process ensured that:

  • All components were protected during transit to avoid any damage.
  • Assembly instructions were included for easy setup by the cinema staff.

Outcome and Impact

The immersive displays were successfully installed in cinemas nationwide, creating a memorable and engaging experience for visitors. The project received positive feedback from both the client and cinema staff, noting the ease of setup and the impressive visual impact of the displays.

The campaign contributed to the buzz surrounding the Paddington in Peru 3 release, with many visitors sharing photos of their interactions with the display on social media, further amplifying the film’s promotion.

This project showcased WH Skinner’s expertise in delivering creative, large-format display solutions that meet both design and practical requirements.
